On 18 March 2026, we experienced an unfortunate incident at the DSA Foundation Hostel in Ila-Orangun, where a section of our solar power system was affected following a solar battery explosion that led to a fire outbreak.
We are grateful that no lives were lost and no student was harmed. Our immediate priority was safety, and swift action was taken to isolate the affected area and prevent further damage.
Since the incident, our team has been working tirelessly to restore essential services for our students. I am pleased to share that we have already implemented temporary measures to ensure water pumping, lighting for rooms (fans and bulbs), and charging of phones and laptops, which are currently being supported through generator power while repair work continues.
The hostel was established to provide a safe, affordable, and conducive learning environment for students, particularly those pursuing demanding programs in health sciences and STEM fields. The solar power system has been a critical component of this vision, ensuring reliable and sustainable energy for the facility.
We are now working towards fully restoring and upgrading the solar power system to a 20kw capacity, which will provide stable and sustainable electricity for the hostel community.
